The James family from Monmouthshire recently visited the Charity’s Cardiff Heliport to present a cheque for £1,000, raised in her memory.

 

Gwenda May James sadly passed away on March 13^th, but her family were keen for her legacy to make a difference.

 

The wife of a prominent Newport businessman, Peter James of Cintec International – Gwenda spent many years as a midwife and was held in very high esteem by both former patients and close friends alike. Peter, a self-made businessman established Cintec in 1985 which has grown from strength to strength and has a standing internationally within the engineering industry.

 

Peter fondly recalls his late wife: “Gwenda was a very special lady who was appreciated by so many. I fondly remember her being present three times for the birth of one ladies children. This meant so much to the patient that she made Gwenda the godmother to one of her sons. Gwenda was more than a midwife, she was a mother, grandmother, and friend.

 

“I know Gwenda would be proud to donate this money to such a worthy cause, not just because of the work that the Children’s Wales Air Ambulance does with new-born babies and paediatrics but also because she had her own personal experiences recently.”

 

Whilst at home recently, Gwenda was taken seriously ill and needed immediate specialist care. Wales Air Ambulance flew to the family home near Shirenewtown and airlifted Gwenda to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.

 

Peter added: “The Wales Air Ambulance crew got Gwenda to the specialist care she so desperately needed very quickly. We cannot thank them enough for everything that they did for her”.

 

Wales Air Ambulance, community coordinator, Catrin Hall said: “We would like to say a heartfelt thank you to Gwenda’s family and friends for their kindness. Without the support of members of the public, we could not continue our lifesaving work right across Wales. The money kindly donated in her memory will help fund emergency missions and support our work with paediatric patients all over Wales.”
