Wales Air Ambulance has received a generous £200 donation from Llangefni Rotary Club following a presentation.

Alwyn Jones Community Fundraiser for the Wales Air Ambulance was recently invited to be a guest speaker at Llangefni Rotary Club’s dinner at Nant yr Odyn Hotel, near Llangefni.

At the end of Alwyn’s talk the club presented him with the donation for the lifesaving charity.

The air ambulance service in Wales is delivered via a unique Third Sector and Public Sector partnership. The Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service (EMRTS) supplies highly skilled NHS consultants and critical care practitioners who work on board the Charity’s vehicles.

Wales Air Ambulance is consultant-led, taking hospital-standard treatments to the patient and, if required, transferring them directly to the most appropriate hospital for their illness or injury. For the patient, this can mean hours saved when compared to standard care and is proven to greatly improve survival and early recovery.

Llangefni Rotary Club proudly raise funds for a variety of different causes, including Marie Curie, St David’s Hospice and they’ve recently donated prizes for local school craft awards. They regularly collect at supermarkets, street collections and concerts.

Trefor Edwards, Secretary of Llangefni Rotary Club said: “As a Rotary Club we raise funds for all sorts of charities and events, that is our purpose. We have not given to the Wales Air Ambulance before, but it is a worthy cause.”

The Wales Air Ambulance needs to raise £11.2 million a year to keep its helicopters in the air and its rapid response vehicles on the road throughout Wales.

The charity’s Alwyn Jones added: “I was delighted to be asked to give a talk at the club’s dinner and meeting. It was lovely to meet the members and hear the good things they do for all different causes. Thank you to Llangefni Rotary Club for donating £200 to our charity. The money will help us to be there for the people of Wales when they need us most. Diolch yn fawr pawb.”
