Wales Air Ambulance is delighted to announce that its first in-person cycle event was a success.

Nearly 100 participants got on their bikes to raise funds for the lifesaving cause, by taking part in Cycle 100km for Wales Air Ambulance.

The event, which was also supported by past and present Wales Air Ambulance medics and pilots,  started at Cardiff City Stadium. Participants headed towards Bridgend, pedaled through Port Talbot and passed through Swansea before they finished off in Pembrey Country Park.

Whether you were a seasoned cyclist or a first-time racer, Cycle 100km was aimed at having fun, enjoying the scenic views and celebrating the local cycling community.

Despite the bad weather each participant proudly wore their Wales Air Ambulance cycle jersey and was presented with a Cycle 100km medal at the end of the race.

Riders were also given the opportunity to enjoy time in a hot tub or be treated to a massage at the end of the cycling event.

Wales Air Ambulance is consultant-led, taking hospital-standard treatments to the patient and if required, transferring them directly to the most appropriate hospital for their illness or injury.

It is delivered via a unique Third Sector and Public Sector partnership. The Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service (EMRTS) supplies highly skilled NHS consultants and critical care practitioners who work on board the charity’s vehicles.

As a pan-Wales service, the dedicated crews, regardless of where they are based, will travel the length and breadth of the country to deliver emergency lifesaving care.

The Wales Air Ambulance needs to raise £11.2 million every year to keep its helicopters in the air and its rapid response vehicles on the road.

Mark Stevens, Head of Fundraising for Wales Air Ambulance said: “We were delighted with the turnout for our first Cycle 100km fundraiser for our all-Wales Charity. Despite the awful weather, the participants enjoyed themselves. Thank you to everyone who supported the riders during the day. We really appreciate your support of our all-Wales Charity.

“Our crew enjoyed taking part in the fundraiser along with our supporters. It is always nice to show our supporters that despite the hard work our crew do daily, they also like to support our fundraisers and meet our supporters.”
